Hamlet by Blue Apple Theatre (link to external website)

Blue Apple Theatre are bringing Shakespeare’s most famous play and the talent of learning disabled artists to audiences and stages around Hampshire and the South of England in May, June and July 2012. This pioneering theatre project challenges audience preconceptions and brings new insights into a familiar play.  South East venues include - Guildford, Surrey; Aldershot, Hedge End, Andover and New Milton in Hampshire; Abington, Oxfordshire; Winchester and Kingston upon Thames.

This is a free conference to help redesign a directory of services for disabled people in Slough and to discuss the content of a disabled persons service standard/charter. It is open to disabled people and carers of disabled people with free transport and lunch available. Places must be booked. Flyer for the conference (pdf document).

INDI South East - Disability Awareness and Networking Event

Generating Earned Income from Trading, Service Delivery and Social Enterprise (pdf format)

This is a one day conference on how to develop and fund sustainable new income streams for charities, social enterprises and other not-for-profit organisations. It will be held in central hall, Westminster and is organised by the Action planning Social Enterprise Team in association with ACEVO, Blackbaud and The Social Investment Business. The Volunteer Fair is organised by the Directory of Social Change and supported by volunteering England. It takes place in London and provides a variety of workshops specifically designed for volunteer managers and supporters.

Diabetes UK - Healthy Lifestyle Roadshow

The Diabetes UK Healthy Lifestyle Roadshow will be visiting Worthing, Reading, Brighton, Hastings, Slough, Staines and Portsmouth over the next few months in the hope to assess people to determine their risk of developing Type 2 diabetes. People attending will receive a free Type 2 diabetes risk assessment, have the opportunity to chat to dieticians, join the physical activity zone and pick up a free piece of fruit as well as receiving important advice about how leading a healthy lifestyle can reduce people's risk.

Volunteer Week is between 1st - 7th June 2012. This year the theme is 'Supporting People into Volunteering.

Several events are occurring in Slough during this week, including the launch of WAVE (Wider Access To Volunteering for Everyone), two Volunteer Awards ceremonies, and some drop in opportunities to find out more about volunteering. This Inside Government conference's full title is 'Shaping the Future of the Civil Society: Empowering Charities, Voluntary Groups and Social Enterprises'. It aims for delegates to gain first hand knowledge on what is required to develop their organisations and contribute positively to public services and for delegates to take part in an interactive policy discussion regarding changes to civil society funding and opening up public services.

This conference will be held at the International Conference Centre in Birmingham. Although it is primarily aimed at those working in local government, it is also open to those in the wider public, private and voluntary sector.

The Charity Fair in London is organised by the Directory of Social Change. There will be over 100 training sessions taking place over the 2 days, relevant to the charity and voluntary sector, including fundraising, marketing, people & project management, personal development, charity law and finance, social media, communications and localism and policy.

Welfare Reform: Creating a Welfare System Fit for the 21st Century (link to external website)

Delegates at this forum will have the opportunity to gain a better understanding of the welfare reforms, how they will be implemented and when they will be rolled out. This includes sessions regarding specific benefit changes and also looking at the role of the voluntary sector with regard to delivering the Work Programme and also a session entitled 'How do we ensure welfare reforms provide the right support for disabled people'.

UK Stroke Assembly

The UK Stroke Assembly is an annual event for people to discuss topics, share experiences, talk to and influence professionals from stroke charities and try out new products designed to help live a life after stroke. Reduced cost tickets are offered to people with stroke, carers and family members. The Stroke Association is hosting this event, which will be held at the Hilton Metropole, Birmingham NEC.
